So says Mark Lukasiewicz, the vice president of NBC News Specials and Digital Media. One of a number of Canadians who've established successful journalism careers in the United States, Mark has seen TV news ride a few tech storm waves, from the rise and fall of the dot.com era to today's radically redefined multi-channel universe. Yet while the mediums may change, he says, there will always be a demand for quality journalism.

The Canadian Journalism Foundation welcomes Mark Lukasiewicz to Toronto. He will be introduced by Executive Director of Documentary Programming for CBC Television, Mark Starowicz.

ABOUT OUR SPEAKERS

MARK LUKASIEWICZ was named to the dual role of vice president, NBC News Specials and Digital Media, in June 2009. As head of NBC News Specials, he has broad responsibility for all special news productions on MSNBC and NBC News, including live election coverage, major planned news events and breaking news specials. In the digital arena, he oversees all of NBC News' digital platform programming, supervising the NBC News relationship with its internet joint venture, MSNBC.com, as well as NBC news content on many other digital platforms.

Since joining NBC News 10 years ago, Lukasiewicz has created dozens of hours of live and taped programming for NBC and its cable partners MSNBC and CNBC. In 2006, he was named NBC News' vice president of digital media and spearheaded a deep editorial integration between the news division’s television and digital properties. Lukasiewicz also negotiated a variety of partnerships between MSNBC.com, NBC News, and sites, such as NYT.com, National Journal and MySpace. Prior to joining NBC News, Lukasiewicz was an award-winning producer at ABC News, where he served as producer and senior producer of "Prime Time Live," senior producer and domestic editor of "World News Tonight with Peter Jennings," and executive producer of "Good Morning America."

MARK STAROWICZ is Executive Director of Documentary Programming for CBC Television. From 1970 to 1979, he was a producer for CBC Radio, and from 1982 to 1992 he was the executive producer of the CBC Television newsmagazine program, The Journal. He was the executive producer of the 2000 mini-series, Canada: A People's History, then went on to head the CBC Documentary Unit. Starowicz was named an Officer of the Order of Canada in May 2004 and has multiple honorary degrees. He has received seven Gemini Awards, has been honoured by the Canadian Club as Canadian of the Year, and received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award in 2000 from the Canadian Journalism Foundation.
